Speakers on the international forum on aussterity included Pablo Miceli, Argentina, Tania Diaz, Spain, Joe Mpisi, South Africa, and Kalpona Akter, Bangladesh. Andrea Horwath, Ontario NDP Leader, brought down the house with her message that the NDP were the party for the unionized working man/woman and promised to help raise the standard of living for families in Ontario......
Over the lunch hour we marched down Younge Street to Dundas Square, 1,000 strong, in support of raising the minimum wage in Ontario from $10.25 to $14.00 an hours in support of the working poor, working 2-3 jobs. During the rally, we made a pit stop at the Eaton Centre at the Rich Tree Restaurant where they recently laid off 50 unionized workers, closed and reopened replacing loyal, 20 year emplyees, with new, non-unionized workers.
Guest speaker, Rob Fairley, Director, Toronto Labour Council, spoke about the attack on workers' rights from the Harper government and the Hudak government of Ontario. We finished off the afternoon voting on new resolutions and constitutional amendments for the OFL.
