There was approximately 150 delegates in attendance from across Canada .
I had the honor and the privilege of being the Region 2 facilitator for the workshop , " LABOUR AND THE NEXT FEDERAL ELECTION " .
Although the experience of speaking in front of a large group was rather unnerving , I did receive
some positive feedback .
I spoke on a variety of topics , including ; political action , income inequality , declining unionization rates and how labour is preparing for the next federal election .
There was also a variety of guest speakers . These included , Barb Byers , Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian Labour Congress , Alexandre Boulerice , NDP House of Commons representative from Quebec .
We also attended a lunch seminar " Strengthening Sisterhood in Politics " hosted by Patti Clancy staff rep from Region 2 . The discussion focused on involving women in politics at all levels.
Dr. Dawn Harvard , Vice President ( NWAC ) Natives Women Association of Canada . The associations goal is to achieve equality for all aboriginal women across Canada and to end the discrimination against indigenous women . Her speech was quite moving to say the least.
This presentation was followed by the workshop " Equity Groups in Politics " . Essentially , the discussion concentrated on how we can ensure everyone is brought up to the same level by addressing the barriers these cultures face .
We had closing remarks from Simon Berlin , National President .
