The purpose of the assembly was for community activist , labour activists and anti-poverty organizers to develop an action plan to challenge inequality and end poverty .
Friday panel discussion was " Solidarity Against Inequality "
Panelists were :
Jessica Davis - " Fight for $15 " Activist . Fighting for higher wages and stable hours.
Crystal Sinclair - Toronto organizer for " Idle No More " . The movement is committed to working to ensure the inherent rights of First Nations Peoples and traditional territories , environment and waters are protected.
Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois - " Quebec Student Leader and Author. One of the lead spokespersons for the strikes that swept Quebec in 2012.
Panel discussions continued Saturday morning . Guest speakers centered their presentations
primarily around " Building a Strong Movement Against Inequality " .
Panelists were :
Melissa Addison-Webster , Anti-poverty and disability-rights organizer .
Grace-Edward Galabuzi - Associate professor of Politics . Talks about how the forces of inequality were
set in motion by the government.
Linda Mcquaig - Journalist , columnist , Author and Social Critic . Talks about her new book " The Problem with Billionaires " . Laws are determined by those who has the power and how laws are altered so
money flows to the top.
John Clarke - Anti-Poverty activist since 1983. Organizer since 1990 for the Ontario Coalition against
Poverty . Talks about how we are in a " Class War " and how austerity is a war on the poor .
Classroom style workshops were also held on Saturday . Building a strong movement and getting involved
in grassroots campaigns .
Over all a very inspirational weekend with excellent panel discussions .
